Name change

MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa owner IMH Financial has changed its name to Lat33. According to CEO Chad Parson, the name aligns with the location of the company’s Scottsdale headquarters and the name change is to provide “a fresh start” for the company, following its 2020 bankruptcy.

Lat33 Capital, formerly known as IMH Financial Corporation, announced last week a new management company for Sonoma’s MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa. Urgo Hotels & Resorts will oversee the operations of the hotel, effective immediately. MacArthur Place is the management company’s first California property.

Chad Parson, CEO of Lat33 Capital, told the Index-Tribune on Monday Urgo was selected because of its experience managing more than 40 different types and varieties of properties.

“We think they are going to help create some efficiencies on the property and bring a fresh set of eyes in terms of what can be improved,” said Parson. “That said, we believe strongly that we’re the best hotel offering in Sonoma but we recognize there are some operational aspects to be improved.”

There will be no change to the MacArthur Place signage or logo, Parson said.

Over the next few months, employees of Macarthur Place will become employees of Urgo Hotels & Resorts, but Parson stressed that no layoffs are expected. “And, in fact, we are actively hiring now,” Parson said.

The 64-room, luxury boutique hotel underwent a major renovation in August 2019. The 6-acre property includes the restaurant, Layla; the coffee shop/marketplace The Porch; and The Bar at MacArthur. The property also includes a full-service spa, mid-century pool and a new art collection.

Arizona-based IMH Financial Group purchased the 64-guest-room hotel for $36 million in late 2017 from an ownership group that included Suzanne Brangham, Bill Blum and others. The hotel property, located at the corner of Broadway and MacArthur Street, is currently a wholly- and privately-owned subsidiary of IMH, now Lat33. IMH entered bankruptcy protection in July, 2020 and emerged in November that year as a wholly-owned subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Latt33 CEO Chad Parson told the Index-Tribune in May that a spa and pool remodel will begin in 2021.

A proposal from MacArthur Place to add 11 new guestrooms to be located in five new buildings on the property went before Sonoma’s Design Review and Historic Preservation Commission in March 2021 and the commission unanimously recommended approval to the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission will consider the Design Review and Use Permit applications on June 10. Details will be circulated for public comment from May 19 to June 8 at sonomacity.org/macarthur-place-hotel-spa-guestroom-addition-project.
