New coffee company: Cameron Iturri-Carpenter, 32, and Sasha Papadin, 40, are in the middle of a soft launch of Woodshop Coffee “to bring third-wave influenced artisan coffee” to their hometown with the goal of eventually creating a blue collar artisan gallery and gathering place. They are hoping for a permanent location in 2022. Pop ups are expected in the months ahead, follow Woodshop on Instagram to learn more. Thrift news: Bon Marche thrift store on Riverside Avenue now has an online Etsy store where owner Anna Bimenyimana sells their most valuable items like jewelry and designer pieces. Search Bon Marche Vintage on Etsy to find it.

Bargain movies: Prime Cinema Sonoma in Fiesta Plaza is offering dollar movies every Saturday in August. Tickets are at prime-cinema.com.

New publisher: North Bay Business Journal has named Lorez Bailey as its new publisher. Bailey currently leads Santa Rosa-based nonprofit Chop’s Teen Club. Her first day at NBBJ will be in September.

Expanding: Seth Maze’s GHM Builders is moving its main office to the building next to Nelson Jobs at 19150 Sonoma Highway. “The move gives us the additional room we need with 5,000 square feet of office space,” said Maze. “We will remain at the Broadway/MacArthur location as well until we find suitable storage and yard space to replace it.” Temporary signage is up now, exterior upgrades and new landscaping for the building and the bike path are planned.

School supply drive: Global Heart’s annual school kit drive is going on through Aug. 28 to benefit the nonprofit relief organization, the Mennonite Central Committee, which ships kits to under privileged children around the world. Needed are spiral notebooks (8.5” x 10.5” of 70-80 pages each), unsharpened #2 pencils, 12” flexible plastic rulers, large pencil erasers, boxes of 12 colored pencils, black or blue ballpoint pens and small metal pencil sharpeners. New job: Former Woodland Star Charter School director Jamie Lloyd has taken a new job as director of Portland Waldorf School in Washington.

French flea market: Chateau Sonoma is hosting a Le Petit French Flea Market Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7 and 8 with treasures, sparkling wine samples, live music, macaroons and Sonoma Syrup samples with sparkling water. 453 First St. W. Hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Seed exchange: There will be a free seed exchange this Saturday, Aug. 7 during the Harvest Market at Sonoma Garden Park, 9 a.m. to noon. The community is invited to bring in seed packs or harvested seeds and exchange them for seeds you might want to try next year. Retiring: For 26 years, and after serving over 750,000 meals to Sonoma citizens, Sue Holman and Susan Weeks’ are retiring. As volunteer directors of the Meals on Wheels of Sonoma program, they’ve planned the meals, purchased supplies, and led the all-volunteer staff in coordinating the entire operation.

Stuck in time: Sonoma was named one of the top 10 “Stuck in Time” towns in the U.S. by The Discoverer website. “Next time you have the urge to escape the modern, fast-paced cities, consider these wonderful towns scattered across the country,” the article reads. In particular, the author seems charmed by Sonoma’s “frontier-style buildings (that) double up as cafes, gourmet restaurants and saloons.”

New logo: Operation Bicycle's has a new logo. When the Teen Services logo evolved as a result of its merger with the Boys & Girls Clubs, the Operation Bicycle logo evolved too. New hire: Public Works Director Colleen Ferguson announced last week that Oriana Hart is the City's new Environmental Compliance Analyst. She began her new role on July 19.

Revamped gas brand: Beacon Gas at 18618 Sonoma Highway in Sonoma has rebranded as Sonoma Express Gas.

Temporary closure: Schermeister Winery’s tasting room at Jack London Village in Glen Ellen has closed until 2022 because their wines have sold out. The tasting room will reopen on Feb. 1, 2022, with reservations on OpenTable available in January.

Harvest 2021: The Official Sonoma Valley Harvest Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Mission San Francisco Solano on the Plaza will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17. Growers, vintners, the local wine community, Sonoma Valley fire and police departments, local elected officials, industry partners and more will gather at the Mission to celebrate the start of harvest with the official bell ringing.
