Fig Café closure, new dog trainer, huge yard sale and more

Farmers Market news: The details are still being firmed up but expect Sonoma’s Tuesday Night Market to resume almost normal operations on June 15 ‒ including food and music. Check next Tuesday’s edition of the Index-Tribune for the specifics.

New dog trainer in town: Certified dog trainer Nathan Rhodes has launched Sticks and Bones dog training and walking services in Sonoma. Rhodes just arrived in Sonoma this spring. He can be reached by email at sticksandbones23@gmail.com.

Moving on up: Napa County moved up to the yellow tier this week, allowing businesses there to increase capacity. On June 15, however, California will abandon its color tier system and the mask mandate will be lifted for all vaccinated residents. There will be no capacity limits and no social distancing required. Mega events (over 5,000 people) have some guidelines in place for conferences, conventions, concerts and sporting events until Oct. 1.

Community Center construction: The parking lot is being torn up at the Sonoma Community Center on East Napa Street because Tesla is constructing 10 electric vehicle charging stations, in partnership with the City and its energy sustainability plans. Two of the stations will be universal chargers that work with any electric vehicle; the other eight will be Tesla supercharger stations. Construction should be done in early July, and then PG&E will hook them up to power.

Day passes: The website resortpass.com offers one-day experiences at most local Sonoma and Napa county hotels. The day passes range from $25 to $250 and many have child rates. Learn more at resortpass.com/hotels.

Fundraising: Homeless Action Sonoma is running a fundraiser on June 12 and 13 with a yard sale, a silent auction and a barbecue, to be held on Sunday at 5 p.m. with wine and music. The yard sale will include furniture shopping, art, clothing, as well as typical yard sale items. HAS Project Manager Sean Rodrigues will be on hand to show the pictures and describe the facility and the new nonprofit’s goal of raising $25,000 to take the first steps to buy a local property. The yard sale is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 12 and 13 at 20018 St. Germain Lane.

Closure: John Toulze, president of the Girl & the Fig, announced last week that the restaurant company plans on shifting its current Fig Café staff over to the Girl & the Fig restaurant and the catering company and to close the Fig Café in Glen Ellen indefinitely. The last day of service at the Fig Café was June 6.

Energy café: A new wellness lounge in downtown Napa called B12 Love offers B12 shots. Also offered are a variety of nutrient injections and IV drips to “energize, enhance, and nourish your life,” according to the Napa Register. 1428 Second St.

Wine partnership: Delicious Dish is providing lavish cheese boards for tastings at Sangiacomo Winery. Sangiacomo Home Ranch is located two miles south of the Plaza at 21545 Broadway. Tastings are available by appointment only, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., available Thursday through Monday. Visit sangiacomowines.com for details.

Staying put: The nonprofit theater company, Sonoma Arts Live, has signed a new five year lease at the Sonoma Community Center.

Pride goods: Pride month is being celebrated around the Plaza with the flying of new sidewalk banners and colorful store displays.

Job board: The Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce’s new website aimed at promoting hospitality jobs in Sonoma Valley is up and running. The site, WorkInWineCountry.com, was created to help local businesses find workers to fill multiple roles in the hospitality industry. The site provides information on job opportunities in broad categories that cover a large percentage of roles at local food, wine, hotel, brewing and distilling, catering and visitor-attraction businesses. As of press time, there were more than 100 postings of help wanted.

Starbucks news: Starbucks customers can start using their personal cups again at company-owned locations in the U.S. on June 22. The coffee company paused the reusable cup program in March 2020.

Back in stock: Prohibition Spirits’ Orangecello liqueur is back in stock and the company’s new Plaza tasting room is now open daily 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The bar shop offers more than 30 locally made, artisanal craft spirits. The tasting including any six of your choice from their selection of gins, cellos, liqueurs, brandies, seasonal specialties and bottled cocktails.
