Sonoma Valley teens looking to get the scoop on what it takes to land their first job with local businesses can gain insights straight from employers at a “What Employers Want” workshop and panel discussion offered by Sonoma Valley Teen Services on Monday, Dec. 1.

Teen Services has teamed up with the Economic Vitality Partnership of the City of Sonoma and the Sonoma Valley Chamber to add this special session to their “Ready to Work” certification program.

The workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Sonoma Valley High School, room J-15, and will include representatives from local businesses, including Dutch Bros. Coffee, Bolt Staffing, Grandma Linda’s Ice Cream, Sonoma Old School, The Girl & the Fig, and Whole Foods.

The “Ready to Work” certification program includes a series six-to-eight workshops offered each fall and spring by Sonoma Valley Teen Services.

Along with assistance with internships and job placement, the “What Employers Want” session will be open to all local teens ages 15 to 19. There is no cost to attend.

The session will include an interactive panel discussion on what employers look for when hiring, and what it takes to be successful in a first job. Teens will have opportunities to ask questions of the panel, and the session will be followed by an informal “mocktail” mixer in the No Name Café.
