Working on a mural

Art teacher Beth Biermann instructs Dunbar kindergartners, from left, Andy Tzintzun Escobar, Dakota Beatty and Ariatna Rodriguez Ramirez in how to add painted shapes, by using blocks, to the mural near the school’s entrance.

At the other end of the mural, Janet Self, a visiting artist from Flockworks, guides another group of kindergartners. A series of murals around the campus have been and or in the process of being painted by different grade levels. This one is being painted by kindergartners and first- and second-grade students.

The images in the mural are meant to integrate what the children are learning in school. Kindergartners, for example, are currently focusing on shapes and colors.
