Workday set Saturday at Montini Preserve

The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District and the Sonoma Ecology Center will hold a stewardship workday at the Montini Open Space Preserve from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

To volunteer for the community workday, contact Cassandra Liu at Sonoma Ecology Center at 996-0712, ext. 104 or Cassandra@sonomaecologycenter.org by Friday, Oct. 17.

It is important to reserve your space so the district and SEC can prepare the work plan. Drop-in volunteers will be welcome as space permits.

The workday is an opportunity for new volunteers to join with seasoned volunteers, who have helped shepherd this property for many years, to make final preparations for its transfer to the City of Sonoma and its opening to the public. All are welcome.

Staff will meet volunteers in the parking lot next to the police station on First Street West. Activities will include removal of silt fencing, protection of rare plant species, rehabilitation of rogue trails, and more. For safety, dress in long sleeves and pants. Be prepared to get dirty.

Bring water, snacks and a pair of gloves. Lunch will be provided for participants.
