Walter F. Brady

Walter F. Brady, born Oct. 16, 1922, in San Francisco, died peacefully on June 28, 2014, at the age of 91, after a brief illness. He was the proud son of Matthew and Clara Brady. He is joining his wife, Marie, and siblings, Jim, Gertude, Matthew and Bernice, who preceded him in death.

Walt met the love of his life, Marie Biasotti, at Portola Junior High School. He joined the Marines and served in World War II with Carlson’s Raiders. He married Marie on June 29, 1946. After working as a cattle buyer out of San Francisco’s “Butchertown,” he started Johnson Meat Company in 1962.

Walt moved his family to Sonoma in 1970. He was a family man and raised three children. He so enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A member of the Native Sons South San Francisco Parlor, his hobbies included fishing, hunting, going to rodeos and cooking.

He is survived by his loving children, Janet Finnerty (Joe) of Arkansas, and Jim Brady (Maureen) and Mary Roche, both of Sonoma; his grandchildren, Dan Brady (Sarah), AJ Roche, Joe Finnerty and Bridget Long (Glenn); his great-grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Brady, Faith and Victoria Long, and Arpenni Roche.

The family would like to express deep appreciation to the nurses and Hospice nurses at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Friends are invited to a funeral service at Duggan’s Mission Chapel on Thursday, July 3, at 1:30 p.m., with interment at Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park.

God bless you, Dad. You are forever in our hearts.
