Volunteer training set for cold weather shelter

By

FISH, Brown Baggers and various churches will be opening an overnight Severe Weather Shelter in Sonoma within the next 10 days.

Volunteers are needed for the nights when the shelter is open (when the temperatures are predicted to be below 32 degrees or when it rains and the temperatures are below 40 degrees).

Anyone interested in volunteering can participate in one of two training programs from 10 a.m. to noon or 6 to 8 p.m. at Vintage House senior center Thursday, Feb. 6.

The shelter will rotate between space made available at the Sonoma Alliance Church, New Life Assembly of God, Faith Lutheran Church and the First Congregational Church. Clients will meet at a central point for screening, then a van will deliver them to the selected church for the night.

Brown Baggers will provide hot meals in the evening and in the morning.

Vintage House is located at 264 First St. E.
