Ukrainian Festival brings cultural music to the Moose

A festival of Ukrainian Culture begins tonight, Nov. 7, at the Moose Lodge and will continue throughout the weekend with a number of events.|

A festival of Ukrainian Culture begins tonight, Nov. 7, at the Moose Lodge and will continue throughout the weekend with a number of events. Tonight, kicking off at 6 p.m., there will be an art opening and wine tasting followed by a concert of Ukrainian songs by Julivanna Duet and a Kitka Quartet, followed by a dance party with cabaret seating featuring the Jubilee Klezmer Ensemble. Saturday, Nov. 8, the festival continues with a family fiesta during the day of Ukrainian song and dance, along with a craft workshop, which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. The evening festivities get underway at 6:30 p.m. with a concert banquet at 7:30 p.m. which features a full Ukrainian meal served in the traditional style with wine and vodka. Ukrainian singers, along with Mexican dancers from Woodland Star Charter School will perform a variety of traditional songs and dances throughout the evening. Rossi’s 1906 in El Verano presents reggae night on Saturday, Nov. 8, which will feature British reggae pioneers Black Slate. Hailing from London, Black Slate are the forerunners of the British reggae scene of the ’70s and ’80s, paving the way for the likes of English reggae acts such as Steel Pulse, UB40, Maxi Priest, Aswad, Pato Banton and more. After numerous international hits and tours in the ’80s, they re-emerged in 2014 at the internationally renowned Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in California to wide acclaim, rave reviews and, a new album on the horizon. This will be the first stop on a U.S. tour. Opening the show will be Midnight Sun Massive plus HoneyRose and Lady C, backed by the Visionaries. Showtime is 9 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door.

The Annex Wine Bar welcomes the Sean Carscadden Quartet tonight, Nov. 7, for a 7:30 p.m. show. Saturday, Nov. 8, it’s Tsunami, also for a 7:30 p.m. show. There is no cover but the venue is 21 and over only.

Burgers and Vine presents the Bumblin’ Bones on Saturday, Nov. 8, kicking off at 9:30 p.m. Opening the show will be Winoceros. There is no cover.

The El Verano Inn has the triumphant return of the Mountain Squirrel, on Saturday, Nov. 8, playing classic rock and jam-band songs. Showtime is 9 p.m.

The Erik James Tasting Room has music tonight, Nov. 7, with Macy Blackman kicking off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, it’s Charlie Hickox, Tim Eschliman and Luis Rodriguez, also for a 7 p.m. show. There is no cover either night, but there is a $10 minimum.

HopMonk Tavern Sonoma has Tom Rhodes tonight, Nov. 7, playing Americana on the tavern stage at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, the tavern stage welcomes Matt Bolton, playing acoustic. There is no cover and the shows are family-friendly..

The Plaza Bistro presents the Le Hot Jazz Trio, tonight, Nov. 7, for a 7 p.m. start. There is no cover for the show.

The Epicurean Connection presents Kevin Russell and his So-Called Friends tonight, Nov. 7, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. There is also a photography show from Sandie Nalezny. Saturday, Nov. 8, it’s Deirdre Egan and Garen Patterson, also for a 7:30 p.m. show. Sunday, Nov. 9, it’s an early start for Them Travelin’ Birds. Showtime is at 1 p.m..

Murphy’s Irish Pub presents the Sonoma Mountain Band tonight, Nov. 7, kicking off at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, it’s bluegrass night with Blithdale Canyon, kicking off at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, it’s Tony Gibson and Dawn Angelosante, kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

The Blue Moon Saloon has karaoke on Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, the saloon presents the continuation of the blues jam, starting at 9:30 p.m. There is no cover.

Diego Garcia will be in Napa at the Napa Valley Center for Spiritual Living tonight, Dec. 7, for a 7 p.m. show.
