Trojans trip Sonoma tennis boys

Taking an early advantage in a key Sonoma County League match, the defending SCL champion Sonoma Valley High School tennis boys put themselves in position to move up from third into second place behind front-running Analy and get back into the hunt for a second straight title.

But the Dragons couldn’t sustain their momentum and visiting second-place Petaluma managed to split singles and sweep doubles en route to a 5-2 win last Thursday at the high school courts.

Claiming victories for the Dragon netters were senior Magnus Forsythe’s 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 over Cole Simpson at No. 2 singles; and junior James McKale’s 6-1, 7-6 over Prakash Ravikumar at No. 3 singles.

Sustaining Sonoma’s losses were junior Caleb Horowitz’s 6-4, 6-7, 4-6 to Kevin Cox at No. 1 singles; junior Sam Sondheim’s 1-6, 3-6 to Auggie Clark at No. 4 singles; juniors Vince Caruso and Kaden Cable’s 3-6, 2-6 to Jason Metten and Ryan Cox at No. 1 doubles; freshmen Liam Handron and Matt McKale’s 6-7, 0-6 to Gabe Medina and Jorge Bugarin at No. 2 doubles; and sophomores Ian Bon and Miles Pimentel’s 2-6, 3-6 to Jason Rue and Caleb Hess at No. 3 doubles.

The Dragons get a chance to get back on the winning track by hosting first-place Analy at 3:30 p.m. on the high school courts.
