Calling all ecologists, artists, designers and fashionistas! It is time to dive into the nearest recycling bin and scour the nearest thrift store for recycled haute couture inspiration.

The Sonoma Community Center’s fourth annual Trashion Fashion show will be held on Saturday, March 22. Here is your chance to strut the catwalk and show how fun, innovative and beautiful recycled fashions can be.

This call to artists is open to all individuals or groups ages 9 and up.

The application and design proposal deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14. Download a prospectus and application at sonomacommunitycenter.org or pick one up at the SCC office, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 22, at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. W.

Sponsored by My Girlfriend’s Closet and The Republic of Thrift and held in conjunction with “Girls Getaway Month,” this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever as $1,200 in cash prizes will be awarded.

The Trashion Show was inspired by the community center’s commitment to promoting sustainable living.

“Trashion is a fashion philosophy that combines environmentalism with innovation. It springs from a desire to make the best use of limited resources by making traditional and avant-garde clothing or objects from recycled materials or cast off junk,” said Margaret Hatcher, the community center’s special projects manager. “The work created in previous years’ Trashion events has been so spectacular, surpassing my wildest dreams. We are pleased that so many young people are participating and creating wonderful designs. It truly is inspirational. I can’t wait to see what people create this year.”
