‘Trashion’ applications due Friday

The Sonoma Community Center’s fourth annual Trashion Fashion show will be held on March 22, and the deadline for design proposals is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14. Trashion Fashion is a chance for frustrated fashionistas to strut the catwalk in fun, innovative and beautiful recycled fashions.

This call to artists is open to all individuals or groups ages 9 and up.

Applicants can download a prospectus and application at sonomacommunitycenter.org or pick one up at the SCC office, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 22, at the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. W.

Sponsored by My Girlfriend’s Closet and The Republic of Thrift, and held in conjunction with “Girls Getaway Month,” this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, as $1,200 in cash prizes will be awarded.

The Trashion Show was inspired by the community center’s commitment to promoting sustainable living.

“Trashion is a fashion philosophy that combines environmentalism with innovation. It springs from a desire to make the best use of limited resources by making traditional and avant-garde clothing or objects from recycled materials or cast off junk,” said Margaret Hatcher, the community center’s special projects manager. “The work created in previous years Trashion events has been so spectacular, surpassing my wildest dreams. I can’t wait to see what people create this year.”
