Tours, wine tasting fete Jack London’s birth

Jack London State Historic Park and neighboring Benziger Family Winery celebrate Jack London’s birthday with special docent guided tours and wine tastings on Sunday, Jan. 19.

The tours of Beauty Ranch will focus on Jack London’s pioneering experiments in sustainable agriculture as well as his time living at the Ranch. Jack London began this innovative farm work in 1911, truly ahead of his time and sowing seeds for the sustainable concepts that have since become a natural part of life and work in Sonoma Valley, including Benziger Family Winery, a leader in biodynamic viticulture and farming.

The one-and-a-half-hour tours, at 10:30 a.m., 11 and 11:30, begin in the London Cottage and then continue with docent-guided tours to Pig Palace, winery ruins and stone barns.

Following the tour, guests proceed down the road to Benziger Family Winery for a complimentary wine tasting. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the winery’s terrace area.

Jack London, famous adventurer and writer, traveled all over the world but came to settle in Glen Ellen at his Beauty Ranch, which is now part of the 1,400-acre Jack London State Historic Park.

Tickets are $25, which includes entry fee and can be purchased in advance at jacklondonpark.com/jack-wine.html. Reservations are required.
