Tough Tuesday for Sonoma in water polo, golf, tennis matches

Whether at home or on the road, it was a tough Tuesday for Sonoma Valley High School's water polo and girls' golf and tennis teams.

At the Sonoma Golf Club course, the Lady Dragons were edged by Sonoma County League rival Healdsburg 300-323, and were paced by junior Callie Hogan's nine-hole round of 58; freshman Candice Silkey’s 62; frosh Ali Declercq’s 63; and junior Isabel Garon and frosh Hannah Ladouceur’s 70 each.

The Sonoma girl golfers, who played league foe Piner yesterday in Santa Rosa – results not available at presstime – host Elsie Allen in a 3:30 p.m. SCL match at the SGC course on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

In SCL girls' tennis, the Lady Dragons dropped a 6-1 decision to longtime rival Petaluma, with their only win coming at No. 3 doubles, where juniors Hannah Adams and Alison Gray topped Kelly D’Ambrogia and Emily Norwood 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Sustaining Sonoma's losses were senior Hanna Lemaire’s 0-6, 0-6 to Maddie Thomas at No. 1 singles; junior Emma Stanfield’s to Nicoline Petersen 0-6, 0-6 at No. 2 singles; junior Brenda Maldonado’s 1-6, 0-6 to Kim Garcia at No. 3 singles; senior Annie Morgan’s 2-6, 1-6 to Emma Morgan at No. 4 singles; senior Isabel Hernandez and sophomore Kasey Richards’ 0-6, 2-6 to Ada Payne and Hanna Sloth at No. 1 doubles; and senior Stephanie Angulo and sophomore Sydney Moore's 1-6, 2-6 to Gracie Davis and Grace Stembrouch at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Dragon netters, who faced SCL rival Analy in Sebastopol yesterday – results not available at presstime – host league foe Elsie Allen at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, on the high school courts.

It doesn’t seem to matter where the Sonoma varsity boys and girls' water polo teams compete, whether in last year's Redwood Empire League, or this year's Marin County Athletic League, Ukiah has a strong water polo program and proved it again on Tuesday.

In the friendly confines of its home pool, Ukiah defeated the Sonoma boys 24-10, while swamping the Lady Dragons 19-1, with senior Amanda Ramponi scoring their lone goal.

Pacing the Dragon boys were senior Adam Curry and sophomore Owen Summers' three-goal hat-tricks each; junior Jack Lewis’ two goals; and junior Cian Lacy and junior Joseph Dukes' one goal apiece.

The junior varsity boys' match saw the Wildcats top Sonoma 14-5, with sophomore Luke Severson scoring three goals, and sophomore Noah White and freshman Mario Coronado each scoring one goal.
