Veteran journalist Don Frances has been hired as news editor of The Sonoma Index-Tribune.
Frances, a journalist with 20 years of experience, replaces outgoing staff writer Emily Charrier-Botts, who took a managing editor position at the Petaluma Argus-Courier, a sister paper.
Frances’ past experience includes staff positions at the Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner and Patch.com. From 2005 to 2010, he was managing editor of the Mountain View Voice, a community newspaper in Silicon Valley.
“Local journalism is my favorite kind, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to work in Sonoma – one of the best towns in California,” Frances said Thursday.
Editor and Publisher David Bolling said he was “delighted” to have Frances on board, adding that “his particular skills in community journalism make him a perfect fit with the Index-Tribune.”
