Sybil Marina Hansen

Sybil Marina Hansen, 80, passed to her heavenly home from Sonoma on Aug. 3, 2014. Sybil was born on May 21, 1934, in Riga, Latvia to Hans and Helene Rosewsky. The family immigrated to America after the war and Sybil celebrated her 18th birthday on a train while traveling cross country to the family’s new home in San Francisco.

Sybil married and went on to have five children and devoted her life to raising them. She was active in her church’s women’s club, where she made quilts for the needy among other things. Sybil was a constant volunteer at her children’s schools and scouting groups and always saying yes when asked to do something. After her children were grown, Sybil worked for many years as a live-in caregiver and companion making life easier for others.

Sybil moved to Sonoma in the mid-1980s. She became a resident and active member at DeAnza Moon Valley Mobile Home Park where she continued volunteering; frequently played her favorite, bingo; and participated in many Halloween costume contests where she often times won with her inventive costumes. Some of her favorite activities were baking, gardening, sewing and all other needle crafts. She made and shared many beautiful things. Sybil loved going to the beach, collecting shells and smelling the salty air. One of her favorite beach/ocean experiences was a wonderful whale watching cruise. But what Sybil loved the most was being a Mom and Grandma. She loved spending time with her family and always put them first. Sybil will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sybil is survived by her beloved family – children: Judy Hansen, Dennis Hansen, Michael (and wife, Jerilynn Schisser) Hansen, Steven Hansen, and Kenneth (and wife, Patti) Hansen; grandchildren: William Cornwell, Timothy While, Matthew While, Sarah Hansen, Kimberly Hansen, Kelly Hansen, Michael Hansen, Jr., John (and wife Emily) Hansen, AnnMarie and Kira Cocchiara, Steven T. She is also survived by her brother, Hans (and his wife, Alice) Rosewsky; sister, Anita Carstensen, and her family; and former daughters-in-law, Julia Morzenti and Loretta McGrath.
