SVH opens women’s health resource room

Sonoma Valley Hospital has opened a women’s health resource room in its Women’s Health Center, funded by a $20,000 grant from Impact100 Sonoma.

It is designed to support the health of women and families by providing access to health assessment tools and printed information which is available in both English and Spanish. Women are invited to use the room without cost when they visit the Health Center for a mammogram, or whenever they wish to drop by.

The new health resource room has two computer stations with Internet access to online health sites women can visit for information, and a self-guided biofeedback program which can help in reducing stress. An online health assessment program will be available soon.

The room also includes a lending library with books and information materials on a wide range of common diseases and conditions, including osteoporosis and bone health, gynecology, menopause, pregnancy and post-partum, diabetes, family planning, and teens and puberty, among others.

“We are very grateful for the generous support of Impact100 Sonoma to help us improve the health of the women in our community and their families,” said Dawn Kuwahara, director of Ancillary Services. “This room is a valuable resource for all the women in our community and we encourage them to make use of it whenever they wish.”

The women’s resource room is located within the hospital’s Women’s Health Center at 246 Perkins St. in Sonoma. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed between noon and 1 p.m. For more information, call 935-5215.
