Students relish Rawhide role

At last year’s Stompers Baseball job fair, Sonoma Valley High senior Joe Peterson quickly raised his hand when asked if he might be interested in serving as the new professional baseball team’s mascot at home games. Since the season began, Peterson has entertained the crowd at Arnold Field at more than 20 games, with some back-up support provided by Christina Uzzo (class of 2014). The Stompers provided paid summer jobs to more than 20 local students this summer and work experience internships to another five. The team has been a resounding hit among both locals and tourists. The Stompers’ last six home games of the 2014 season begin today and run through Sunday. Friday night is Dusty Baker night, Saturday is Jayce Ray autographed poster night and Sunday is fan appreciation night. Tickets are available online and at the gate.
