Student orchestra seeks string instruments

Got an unused instrument in the back of your closet that’s just gathering dust?

Currently, there is a waiting list of more than 40 El Verano Elementary School children for the Valley Vibes Orchestra, a rigorous after-school program in which students learn how to play stringed instruments.

Program organizers hope to form a second youth orchestra at the elementary school with 20 of these kids. Donations of a used violin, viola or cello (of any size) will help enable more kids to learn the joy and discipline of making music.

Each young musician at El Verano dedicates 10 hours per week after school to the orchestra. They are working hard to master the fundamentals of their instrument, play together as an ensemble and give back to the community through frequent concerts.

Those with an instrument to donate may drop it off at the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation (17878 Railroad Ave., Sonoma) Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (donors are asked to include a note with their name and contact information) or call Anne Case at 425-773-3408 to arrange a time to drop it off, or call 939-5519 to arrange a pickup.
