Mark your calendars for Thursday, Nov. 9, when Sonoma Valley’s Mulas family will be honored guests at the fourth annual Sonoma dinner of the Golden Gate Salmon Association at the Cornerstone Gardens in Schellville.
The Salmon Association, a coalition of salmon advocates that includes commercial and recreational salmon fisherman, businesses, restaurants, environmentalists, families and communities that rely on salmon, recognize those who do their part to preserve the habitat of salmon in our rivers and creeks
They will honor the Mulases for their achievements in water conservation, using recycled water for decades on their dairy farm and fields.
John McManus, executive director of GGSA noted, “We are pleased to honor this great family who have pioneered the use of recycled water for their dairy operations. They’ve demonstrated a future where water use is balanced to leave enough for salmon and the environment.”
Local chefs, including Carlo Cavallo (B&V Whiskey Bar and Grille), Adolfo Veronese (Aventine Glen Ellen), Ed Metcalfe (Shiso) and Kyle Kuklewski (Ramekins), will use their special recipes to prepare fresh-caught salmon for dinner guests.
The night will also feature wines, cocktails, silent and open auctions, and the chance to compare fish stories and raise funds for GGSA work to keep abundant salmon stocks in California. Attendees will get a brief update from GGSA on the current state of salmon affairs.

Salmon fishing is excellent right now, particularly for party boats that head out of the Golden Gate. It is slightly slower for boats out of Bodega Bay, but the salmon eventually do move north and the action should improve. In the meantime, anglers are catching lots of rockfish and lingcod on every trip along with some salmon.

Inside San Francisco Bay, there is excellent striped bass fishing right now, including the Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael where Keith Fraser has his shop. Keith says stripers are everywhere. In addition there are still halibut being caught and some salmon action at Cal City (off Tiburon).
