Sonoma Valley softball pre-season gets underway with no-hitter

Kicking off the pre-season with a win, the Sonoma Valley High School softball team drove a couple long balls while Kennedy Midgley stifled Redwood High with a no-hit shutout on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Most of the runs in the 5-0 win were produced by a two-run homer by Kaliyah Hensic and a solo shot by Ally Alcayaga.

Midgley, Hensic and Alcayaga are all returning from last-year’s softball roster. Some members of the “Lady Dragons” have just come off their basketball or soccer seasons, said new coach Mike Fanucchi.

“The majority of players are juniors and seniors and we will be stepping our game time performance up a notch, and showing our competition that Sonoma Dragons are going to bring their best game everyday,” said the coach.

The first two preseason games will be played in Pinole on Saturday, Feb. 23, against Maria Carrillo at 10:30 a.m. and Pinole at 12:30 p.m.

The season’s first game will be played the following Tuesday, Feb. 26, against Terra Linda High on the SVHS softball fields.
