Midweek rains delay Sonoma Valley-Petaluma basketball game

The Sonoma Valley Dragons basketball team’s week was short-changed by the rainstorm on Wednesday, as a power outage canceled the scheduled game in Petaluma. It’s not yet known when that game will be made up.

Which make Monday night’s game at home against the American Canyon Wolves the most recent for which results are available, with the Dragons falling to their VVAL opponents 65-47.

American Canyon jumped out ahead early and were only threatened midway through the third quarter, when Dragons cut the lead to six points. However, a 7-0 run by the Wolves put the game away, according to Dragons varsity coach Mike Boles.

“We just didn’t play well enough and give ourselves the chances to win,” said Boles. “It was one of those games. Give credit to our opponent.”

Reed Hewitt led the Dragons scoring with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, closely followed by Riley Phelan’s 10 points and 4 rebounds. Nicholas Spanger scored 6 with 7 rebounds, and Dom Girish came up with 6 points as well.

“We will regroup, not panic, and bounce back,” said Coach Boles.

Next game is Friday in Napa against Napa, and the next scheduled home game is Wednesday, Jan. 23, against Casa Grande.
