Hervy Williams, coach of the 2018 Sonoma Valley High School junior varsity football team, has been named the new head coach of the varsity team for 2019. The announcement was made on Monday, Jan. 14, by SVHS vice-principal Aaron Gildengorin.

“With 15 years of coaching experience and six years of head coaching experience here at Sonoma Valley High School, Williams looks to improve upon his already stellar history as a Dragons football coach,” said Gildengorin in a message to school staff.

Saying he was honored to be selected to coach varsity football, Williams added, “This is something that I have dreamed about forever. I am honored to have the opportunity to coach these guys.

“We will do things the right way, through hard work and dedication. I am excited to get started and see how good we can be.”

In 2018, Williams led the junior varsity team to a strong start as they went 4-0 out of the gate. Then they met stiffer competition in the new Vintage Valley Athletic League, and finished with a 4-6 record. The varsity team ended the year with a 3-7 record.

“We look forward to having Mr. Williams take on this role and are excited to see where he takes the Football program in the coming years,” said Gildengorin.
