Water polo Dragons could clinch NCS bid with win

A win over Ukiah Thursday would mean an NCS water polo bid|

Sophomore Hanna Wales scored five goals last Tuesday, Oct. 16, as the Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon water polo team beat Cardinal Newman, 15-4.

The boys weren’t quite as fortunate and lost to Newman, 16-6.

Thursday, the water polo Dragon teams traveled to Napa where both the boys and girls lost. The girls fell 12-2, although Sonoma goalie Emma Pressley did record 15 blocks. The boys lost a close one, 13-11 as goalie Rollo Benstead turned in another good performance.

The Dragons will end their regular season on Thursday when they host Ukiah at the Sonoma Aquatic Center. Both teams will qualify for the NCS water polo tournament with wins.

Tennis eyes VVAL tourney

The Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon tennis team Thursday lost a 5-2 decision to Napa.

In singles play, Napa’s Sophia Mostow topped Olivia Weisiger, 6-2 and 6-3; Napa’s Cameron Wickersham defeated Audrey Castillo, 6-4 and 6-3; Napa’s Sophia Kroll beat Lilly Raaka, 6-1, 4-6 and 6-3; and Napa’s Nikki Hill defeated Siobhan Hernandez, 6-2 and 6-4.In doubles play, Napa’s Bella Bañuelos and Lisbeth Barreda topped Reese Dobson and Mary Gallo, 7-5 and 6-3; Erin Gylfe and Hannah Walton beat Napa’s Stella Wilson and Ava Moreci, 6-0 and 6-2; and Eden Scheiblich and Lizza Moore defeated Napa’s Liz Cassiani and Kalaya Jones, 6-4 and 6-1.

“None of my girls rolled over in their matches,” said Coach Mary Kate Dreyer. Sonoma ends its regular season Thursday at Petaluma.
