Sonoma tennis girls fall to Casa

League play ends next week.|

The Casa Grande girls tennis team Tuesday beat the Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragons, 4-3.

In singles play, Casa’s Samveda Ruk topped Olivia Weisiger, 6-3 and 6-1; Casa’s Ashley Hancock beat Audrey Castillo, 6-3 and 6-2; Casa’s Suparna Kompalli defeated Lilly Raaka, 6-0 and 6-0; while Siobhan Hernandez kept Casa from the sweep beating Casa’s Dorah Brutus, 2-6, 6-3 and 6-4.

Sonoma did take two of the three doubles matches. Casa’s Lauren Doran and Perla Perez beat Erin Gylfe and Hannah Walton, 6-4 and 6-1; Reese Dobson and Mary Gallo topped Casa’s Kimberly Padilla and Aalyna Silva, 6-3 and 6-0; and Eden Scheiblich and Lizza Moore defeated Casa’s Hadley Mahoeny and Maggie Beal, 6-2 and 6-0.

The loss drops the Lady Dragons to a 1-9 mark on the season.

“I was very proud of my number 4 singles, Siobhan Hernandez - her perseverance helped her win the match,” said Coach Mary Kate Dreyer. “Number 3 doubles Eden Scheiblich and Lizza Moore continued their win streak.”

The Lady Dragons traveled to Napa Thursday, results not available at press time. Sonoma has a bye on Tuesday, Oct. 23, before finishing their regular season at Petaluma on Thursday, Oct. 25.

The Vine Valley Athletic League Singles Tournament will be held on Monday, Oct. 29, at Vintage High School in Napa.

The league Doubles Tournament will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, also at Vintage.
