Sonoma spikers top Napa, fall to Casa

Sonoma looks toward NCS playoffs|

Needing to rebound from a Tuesday loss to Casa Grande, the Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon spikers Thursday, beat Napa 3-1.

Sonoma took the first two sets from Napa, 25-16 and 25-21 before losing the third set in a squeaker 23-25. The Lady Dragons came back in the fourth set and won a squeaker of their own, 25-23.

“The whole team contributed to the win especially in hitting,” said Coach Rand Rognlien said. “Our defense was very scrappy and won some big points when we needed it.”

Gianna Bruton led the Lady Dragons with nine kills, Ruby Capriola and Gracie Vollert had seven, Gabby Knudsen chipped in with six and Charlotte Skorlich had three.

Marisa White led Sonoma with 17 digs, Paulina Martindale and Angelina Carabini had 11 apiece and Izzy Albano had eight.

Tuesday, Casa swept the Lady Dragons in three sets, 20-25, 19-25 and 23-25.

“This was a tough loss for us as our unforced errors hurt us,” Rognlien said. “We had 11 service errors and only three service aces. We also had 15 hitting errors.”
