Tigers agenge Little League championship game loss to bears|

The Bears, regular season and City Tournament champions, were riding a 12-game winning streak coming into Tuesday night’s District 53 Tournament of Champions quarterfinal game against the second-place Tigers.

The game was a rematch of the June 10 city championship game. But the Tigers flipped the script.

The Tigers, led by Max Harrison’s standout performance, were up to the task. After surrendering a two-run homer to Andrew Bonfigli in the bottom of the first, Harrison settled down and struck out seven Bears over 5-1/3 innings. Harrison added a two-run homer of his own to seal the deal in the top of the sixth.

The usually bellicose Bears bats stayed quiet, but for a Ben Sebastiani double off Harrison in the third and singles by Drew Sangiacomo and Will Borden. The Tigers got a clutch two-RBI double in the top of the fourth from All Star Julian Brenek to make it a 5-2 game.

The Tigers added two more insurance runs to make the final 7-2.

Norm Shinn came in to close the game for the Tigers, who played Napa Fire Thursday night at Hughes Field at in the TOC semifinals. Results not available at presstime.

The winner of Thursday’s semifinal will play the winner of the Fairfield Pacific 1 vs. Fairfield Pacific 2 for the championship Saturday. Game time Saturday is 10 a.m. and the location will be determined after Thursday night’s games.
