Sonomans play big part in win|

A number of Sonomans helped Justin-Siena upset Cardinal Newman Tuesday in the North Coast Section Division 3 baseball tournament.

Justin, a 13th seed, beat fourth-seed Cardinal Newman, 7-5 in a game that went nine innings.

Nolan Dunkle started for the Braves and pitched the first seven-plus innings, striking out nine. Luigi Albano-Dito picks up his fourth win, going two scoreless innings in relief.

Coach Jeremy Tayson said offensively, Albano-Dito was three-for-five, with a run, a double and he drove in Toby Hilliard with the go-ahead run in the ninth. Hilliard was two-for-four. “Senior All-MCAL short stop Asher Sutter played flawless defense handling five chances with ease,” Tayson said. Sutter was one-for-four with a walk and an RBI. Alex Kirley had two hits and a run.

Other Sonomans on the roster include juniors Will Natuzzi and Maxx Castellucci, Tayson and pitching coach/head JV coach Sam Alton who was an All-Empire hurler at Sonoma Valley High.

The Braves, who have a 9-14-1 overall record, travel to fifth-seed Bishop O’Dowd for a 5 p.m. Friday game.
