Sonoma pair qualify for track’s MOC

Barrera qualifies in high jump, triple jump, Maggioncalda in high jump|

Two members of the Sonoma Valley High track team qualified for this weekend’s Meet of Champions at Berkeley.

Kaylie Barrera and Emma Maggioncalda qualified at Saturday’s North Coast Section meet at Santa Rosa High School. Barrera qualified in two events – the triple jump and the high jump while Maggioncalda qualified in the high jump. Barrera was fifth in the triple jump with a best jump of 34 feet three and a half inches, and was seventh in the high jump with a jump of four feet 10 inches. Maggioncalda was fourth in the high jump with a best jump of five feet.

The Dragons had other athletes who competed in the NCS meet.

The girls 4X100 relay team of Sammie Pencil, Kasia Jacobson, Maggioncalda and Barrera finished 17th in their race. Jacobson also was in the high jump and was in a 10-way tie for 11th place.

For the boys, Andrew Powers was 20th in the 100; Gavin Blanusa was 23rd in the 200; Liam Sheldon was 22nd in the 1,600 and Luke Sendaydiego was ninth in the high jump.

The boys also had two relay teams compete. The 4X100 team of Gabe Gissell, Powers, Jesus Robles and Sendaydiego was 12th, while the 4X400 team of Blanusa, Gissell, Powers and Sheldon was 18th.
