Thinclads qualify for NCS Meet

Dragons finished 5th, 6th in SCL meet|

Two Dragon relay teams and five individuals qualified Saturday at the Sonoma County League track meet for the upcoming North Coast Section track meet at Santa Rosa High School.

The NCS meet will be held Saturday with the field events starting at 9 a.m. and the track events starting at 10.

The two relay teams that qualified include the boys 4X100 team of Luke Sendaydiego or Joseph Silvi, Gabe Gissell, Jesus Robles and Andrew Powers. At Saturday’s SCL meet, the boys 4X100 team finished fourth.

The girls 4X100 team of Sammie Pencil, Kasia Jacobson, Kaylie Barrera and Emma Maggioncalda also finished fourth.

In addition, Barrera, Maggioncalda and Jacobson finished first, second and third, respectively, in the high jump and earned a spot at the NCS meet. Barrera was second in the triple jump and will be competing in that event.

Sendaydiego won the high jump. Mason Matulaitis was fourth in the shot put but has decided not to compete in the NCS.

Sonoma has two other athletes who may qualify, but Coach Linda Patterson won’t know until later this week whether or not they have qualified.

The Dragons didn’t fare well at the SCL meet with the girls finishing in fifth place with 39 points. Petaluma won the girls meet with 148 points, El Molino was second (124), Analy was third (77), Healdsburg was fourth (74), Sonoma was fifth, Piner was sixth (21) and Elsie Allen was seventh (3).

The boys were sixth overall with 24.5 points. El Molino won the boys SCL meet with 188 points, Piner was second (84), Petaluma was third (76.5), Analy was fourth (68), Healdsburg fifth (52) and Sonoma sixth.
