Lacrosse U10, U8 will host ?home games

Play teams from ?all over Bay Area|

Sonoma has its first youth lacrosse league. Its inaugural spring season is well under way with U10 and U8 girls and boys teams. The league’s last home games will be played this Sunday, April 22, at Adele Harrison Middle School’s new, state-of-the-art all-weather fields.

The league could not have started without the support of Darius Anderson of Kenwood Investments. A high school lacrosse player himself, Anderson was instrumental in supporting the league with 30 sets of equipment for boys and girls, greatly reducing the cost of entry, allowing kids to try lacrosse who otherwise might not have had the chance.

The league formed four teams this spring, serving more than 45 kids. The teams play leagues from all over the Bay Area; including Napa, Petaluma, Cotati and as far away as Davis, Berkeley, Oakland and Danville.

Sonoma Youth Lacrosse is part of the greater Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA), serving lacrosse leagues as far north as Redding all the way down to Monterey. Lacrosse has been gaining traction in California over the last 15 to 20 years, giving the historically popular spring sports softball and baseball a run for their money. The league works closely with Susie Gallo and Lou Biaggi, who coach and run the Sonoma Valley High School girls club team, the Petaluma-Sonoma Thunder.

The boys U10 team will play Rancho Cotate and Santa Rosa in round-robin games Saturday at Hanna Boys Center. The games Saturday will be at 9 and 11:30 a.m.

Games Sunday start at 8:30 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.
