Fourth-seed Patt’s Copy World needed overtime to upset second-seed Heffernan Insurance Brokers Sunday for the 2018 Sonoma Valley Men’s Recreational Basketball’s Jack Benny (39-and-over) Sunday Night League.
Patt’s walked away with a 57-54 win. The game was a hard fought defensive battle with neither team gaining more than a six-point advantage all game.
Heffernan held a small lead at half time, 27-23. But Patt’s stayed close and opened up a six-point lead midway through the second half. Nick Haley of Heffernan hit a three with about three seconds to go to take the game into overtime.
Heffernan had opportunity to win in regulation, and in OT, but missed numerous free throws that left the door open for Patt’s.
Patt’s Sal Chavez hit several big free throws at end of regulation and then in OT to take Patt’s Copy World to their first title since 2013.
In the consolation game, third-seed Murphy’s Irish Pub beat top-seed R&B Custom Builders, 57-53.
