Long day for Dragon thinclads

Dragons third in both boys, girls meets|

The Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragons swept the girls high jump competition Wednesday in a triangular meet against Healdsburg and Petaluma.

The Petaluma Trojans won both the girls and boys meets.

In the girls meet, it was Petaluma 104, Healdsburg 36 and Sonoma 24. In the boys meet, Petaluma had 94 points, Healdsburg had 41 and Sonoma had 24.

In the high jump, Kasia Jacobson won with a jump of 4-feet 8-inches, Kaylie Barrera was second and Emma Maggioncalda was third. Barrera was also second in the long jump.

The Sonoma 4X100 meter relay team was third; Arabella Davis was fourth in the 400; Jasmine Garcia was third in the 300 hurdles; and Sammie Pencil was fourth in the 200.

Annie Robichaud was third in both the discus and the shot while Madison Matulaitis was fourth in the discus and shot. Regan Wheatley was third in the triple jump.

In the boys meet, the Sonoma 4X100 meter relay team won its race; Austin Jagdfeld was second in the 100 hurdles; Gavin Blanusa was third in the 400; Liam Sheldon was third in the 800; Gabe Gisell was fourth in the 200; and Luke Sendaydiego was second in the high jump.

Michael Doyle won the discus with a throw of 97-feet 2-1/2-inches while Mason Matulaitis was fourth in the discus and third in the shot.

The junior varsity girls fared better, sweeping the long jump on their way to a win. Sonoma had 52 points, Petaluma had 38 and Healdsburg had 9. Petaluma won the JV boys meet with 49 points, Healdsburg with 43 and Sonoma with 38.

The Dragon thinclads will return to action next Wednesday, April 18, when they travel to Piner for a dual meet with the Pioneers.
