Baseball Dragons nab their first win

Sonoma gives new coach first win.|

The Sonoma Valley High baseball Dragons bounced back from an opening game loss last Friday, and beat San Rafael in a non-conference matchup, 6-4, Tuesday night at San Rafael’s Albert Field.

It also gave new Coach Ian Slaney his first Dragon win.

Jeremy Mackling started for the Dragons and only gave up one hit through his four-inning stint. Anthony Tommasi relieved Mackling and scattered three hits in his three innings.

Sonoma got one run in the first and three more in the second as both Tuck Williams and Jack Boydell singled and scored. The Dragons added another run in the fourth and an insurance run in the seventh.

“Jack (Boydell) had a couple of big hits for us,” Slaney said. “Kole Morgan caught a great game – and threw out two potential base stealers.”

The win gives the Dragons a 1-1 record.

Sonoma is scheduled to host San Marin at 7 p.m. Saturday – depending on the weather. As of Thursday afternoon, it was expected to continue raining throughout Friday and Saturday.

The Dragons have three games next week: Tuesday at Justin-Siena; Friday against Vintage at the Yountville Veterans Home on Friday; and then return home on Saturday to host Tamalpais in a 7 p.m. start.
