Dragons’ ‘d’ shuts down Terra Linda

Sonoma to host Ygnacio Valley on Saturday|

The Sonoma Valley High Dragon hoopsters Tuesday beat the Terra Linda Trojans, 56-39.

The Dragons led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and upped their lead to 23-16 at the half. Sonoma put the game away in the third quarter outscoring the Trojans 23-10.

“It was a good night in Pfeiffer gym,” said Coach Mike Boles.

Boles was pleased with the effort from his team.

“We played a pretty consistent 32 minutes,” he said. “We enjoyed everyone contributing to the win. We need everyone to contribute and be productive in order for us to be successful.”

He was especially pleased with the defense the Dragons played.

“The players took it upon themselves to step up defensively and their defensive energy translated into scoring opportunities,” he added.

Jack Boydell led the Dragon attack with 25 points – including four of seven from beyond the three-point line – and pulled down six rebounds. Nicolas Spanger had eight points and three rebounds, Luke Sendaydiego had five points and three boards, Reed Hewitt had five points and dished out four assists while Tyler Garrett scored four points but pulled down 14 rebounds.

“We took a positive step forward tonight,” Boles said.

The win ups the Dragon record to 3-4. Sonoma traveled to Alhambra for a Thursday night game, results not available at press time.

The Dragons return home Saturday night and host Ygnacio Valley. Freshmen tip off at 4 p.m., JV at 5:30 and the varsity is set to start at 7 p.m.

After Saturday, the Dragons will be off for a week before going to Middletown on Saturday, Dec. 23, and after that, Dec. 27-30, the Dragons will be competing in the Dixon Ram Tournament.
