Lady Dragon soccer girls fall to Pumas

Sonoma looking for first victory|

The Lady Dragon soccer girls are still looking for their first win of the season after dropping a 4-0 decision Thursday to the Maria Carrillo Pumas.

Sonoma found itself in a 3-0 hole at halftime.

“We never got on track against Carrillo. We dug ourselves a hole and never got out of it,” said Coach Mike Verdu.

“We played better in the second half and actually created a few scoring opportunities, which have been hard for us to come by in years past against Carrillo, but we couldn’t capitalize”

Despite a 4-0 score, Verdu praised goalie Ellie Bon.

“Ellie (Bon) continues to get praise heaped upon her by opposing coaches, she is a force in the net and without her, the score is much worse than 4-0,” Verdu said.

“We’re young and we’re finding our way,” he continued. “We’ll never schedule an easy win in the preseason, so we’ve put ourselves in a tough spot at 0-3. But that’s the way we like it, we never win or lose, we just win or learn.”

The Lady Dragons are off until after Christmas. They have a Dec. 29 date against Justin-Siena and then open their Sonoma County League schedule on Jan. 3.
