Three Sonoma Stompers honored for ‘D’

Three members of the Sonoma Stompers were named as top defenders in the Pacific Association.

Honored were catcher Issac Wenrich, left fielder Brennan Metzger and center fielder Matt Hibbert. It was the second time Hibbert has been honored.

“All three of these guys were integral to our amazing success this season. Hibby has been a pillar on this team since he first arrived. And bringing back Isaac and Brennan really added, not just great talent, but veteran leadership too. These awards are well deserved, and hard earned by all three,” said Theo Fightmaster, Stompers president and general manager.

The awards were selected based on their ability and performance by three representatives of each Pacific Association team. This is the first season since the Pacific Association’s creation in 2013 in which the offensive leaders in three major categories have been honored alongside those known for their outfield grabs and slick infield stops.

The Stompers and the Pittsburg Diamonds each had three members named to the defensive players of the year team.

Those honored include San Rafael’s Max Beatty as pitcher, Pittsburg’s Vinny Guglietti at first base, Pittsburg’s Ordomar Valdez-Martinez at second base, Vallejo’s Chris Fornaci at third base, Pittsburg’s Jose Garcia at shortstop and San Rafael’s Miles Williams in left field.

Guglietti was also honored for batting average as he led the league with a .360 average. San Rafael first baseman Jake Taylor led the league in both home runs with 20, and RBIs with 65.
