Gridders, thinclads in action Saturday

Football in NCS, cross country in SCL meet|

The Sonoma Valley High football Dragons and cross country Dragons will be in action this weekend.

The football Dragons will be traveling to San Jose on Saturday to meet the Harker School in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs.

The Dragons, who have been a Division 3 school for years, were moved down to Division 4 this year.

Sonoma comes into the game with a 3-4 record and received a 14th seed in the playoffs. Because of the wildfires last month, the Dragons lost two games from its schedule – against Galena High School on Oct. 13 and Piner on Oct. 21. The Harker School, which is the third seed, sports a 9-0 record and shut out five opponents this year.

The Harker School is located at 500 Saratoga Ave. in San Jose. Game time is 7 p.m.

The cross country team will be running in the Sonoma County League meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa. The girls team has won the last three SCL titles and will be running for its fourth straight title.

The following Saturday, Nov. 18, the Dragons will be running in the NCS meet at Hayward High School.
