The Sonoma Valley High cross country teams had a pre-season meet Wednesday with Analy that was run as a relay race.
There was a boys race, a girls race and a co-ed race, and for each race the teams consisted of groups of four runners, each of whom ran a 1.1-mile loop on the Ragle Ranch course.
The scoring, according to coach John Litzenberg, was eight points for first, six points for second, four points for third, two points for fourth and one point for fifth.
The Sonoma boys had five teams that finished first, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth and earned 11 points to Analy’s 10. The Sonoma girls had three teams that finished first, second and sixth and earned 14 points to Analy’s seven.
In the co-ed meet, Sonoma finished first, second, fourth and fifth for a 17-4 win.
“This is a fun meet for us, getting to run it as relay teams, which is unusual for cross-country, and running short one-mile legs versus the usual three miles for a standard cross-country race,” said Litzenberg. There were no medals or trophies, but the team won a big bag of Peanut M&M’s.
The Dragons start their SCL season next Wednesday as they race Petaluma and Piner at Foothill Park in Santa Rosa.
