Warriors' Klay Thompson named Grand Marshal of GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma

Klay Thompson is apparently set to signal the Grand Prix of Sonoma's start Sunday.

You can bet Thompson is going to have fun.

The Warriors guard was named Grand Marshal of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Sept. 15-17, the Sonoma Raceway announced Tuesday.

Make that two years in a row for the Splash Brothers - by extension - since Stephen Curry's wife, Ayesha, had that role at last year's Verizon IndyCar Series season finale.

Thompson will say the ceremonial “Drivers, start your engines” and wave the green flag after taking part in pre-race activities, according to the Sonoma Raceway. He'll also take a high-speed lap around the course with racing legend Mario Andretti - all at Thompson's first-ever visit to a motorsports event.

“I am beyond excited to be Grand Marshal for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma,” he said in a press release. “I have heard so many good things about this race, and I can't wait to see everything up close in person.”
