Thinclads kick off season with Alumni Meet

Sonoma Valley High Dragon cross country Coach John Litzenberg won the annual Alumni Cross Country Meet Wednesday afternoon at Maxwell Farms Regional Park.

Litzenberg ran a 15:43, which was about a half-minute ahead of the second-place finisher, alumni Travis Claeys, who ran a 16:15. Junior Justin Cox was third with a time of 16:32, sophomore Nate Jordan was fourth in 17:28 while sophomore Mason Phillips was fifth in a time of 17:44. Senior Amy Stanfield was the first female across the line as she was eighth overall in a time of 18:39.

This year, Litzenberg has 33 runners – 11 girls and 22 boys. And the team is young with six freshmen, 13 sophomores, seven juniors and seven seniors. Sonoma will be competing in the Lowell Invite on Saturday at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Next Wednesday, Sept. 13, the thinclads will be running in the Eight Schools Interlock at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.

The Dragons have only two home meets this year, Sept. 20 and Oct. 18.
