Dragon gridders open season tonight

Face El Camino in South San Francisco|

The Sonoma Valley High football Dragons open their nine-game season tonight, Friday, Sept. 9, at El Camino High School in South San Francisco.

Coach Bob Midgley’s 35-man squad includes 23 seniors and 12 juniors. The junior varsity numbers are up too with 38 players.

The Dragons have four home games and five road games this season.

El Camino is 1-0 on the season as the Colts beat San Rafael 34-0 last Friday. The Colts were 1-9 last year.

Next Friday, the Dragons travel to Montgomery before hosting Elsie Allen for the Dragons’ home opener on Friday, Sept. 22.

On Sept. 29, Sonoma faces Petaluma High at Casa Grande High. Petaluma is playing its home games this year at Casa Grande while the Trojans new football field is under construction.

The Dragons will host Analy on Friday, Oct. 6, and the following Friday, Oct. 13, host Galena High School from Reno, Nevada.

Sonoma has its only day game on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Piner.

On Friday, Oct. 27, the Dragons host Healdsburg and finish the season the following Friday, Nov. 3, at El Molino.
