Villas Martins qualifies for MOC

Freshman only Dragon qualifier for the Meet of Champions|

Freshman Kahlil Villas Martins is the only Sonoma Valley High Dragon who qualified for the Meet of Champions on Friday and Saturday at UC Berkeley.

Villas Martins qualified in the 100 meter race by finishing sixth with a time of 11.56 seconds during Saturday’s North Coast Section track meet at Redwood High School in Larkspur.

Senior Hannah Ford-Monroe and junior Amy Stanfield were the highest placing girls as Ford-Monroe was 10th in the 100 hurdles in a time of 17.15 seconds while Stanfield was 10th in the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.11.

Other results from the boys meet includes sophomore Jesus Robles, 19th in the 200 (25.25); sophomore Justin Cox, 19th in the 1,600 (4.41.22); senior Noah Bartolome, 8th in the 110 hurdles (16.74); the 4x100 relay team of sophomore Andrew Powers, Villas Martins, Robles and senior James Reed, 12th, (45.46); and the 4x400 relay team of Villas Martins, Cox, junior Alonzo Heredia and sophomore Liam Sheldon, 17th (3:47.30).

On the girls side, junior Emma Maggioncalda was 11th in the high jump (4.08), and 21st in the 200, (29.57); junior Trinity McGuiness was 14th in the 400 (1:04.88); Stanfield was 20th in the 1,600, (5.55.23); senior Grace Cutting was 14th (49.94) and Ford-Monroe was 17th (51.08) in the 300 hurdles; the 4x100 relay team of junior Annika Ginter, junior Gigi Girish, freshman Ella Sutter and Maggioncalda was 17th (54.12); the 4x400 relay team of McGuiness, Cutting, Ford-Monroe and Stanfield was 11th (4:28.52); senior Julia Hart was 19th in the shot (26-10.25) and 21st in the discus (83-07).

Villas Martins will be competing at the Meet of Champions for the opportunity to go to the State Track Meet in Clovis the following weekend.
