Dragon thinclads tame Tigers

Both boys, girls are victorious|

The Sonoma Valley High track teams celebrated their only home meet of the year Wednesday by beating the Analy Tigers in a dual meet.

The boys won 78-54, while the girls won 71-61.

Senior Nico Sloop won three events, the long jump, the triple jump and the high jump while senior Noah Bartolome won a pair – the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles, and sophomore Justin Cox recorded double wins in the 800 and 1,600 meter races. Freshman Kahlil Villas won the 100 while the team of sophomore Andrew Powers, Villas, sophomore Jesus Robles and senior James Reed took the 4X100 meter relay.

Earning second-place finishes were sophomore Liam Sheldon in the 1,600, Bartolome in the 400, junior Chris Bruton in the 300 hurdles, Robles in the 200, Leo Macedonio in the 3,200, sophomore Greg Kenton in the high jump, junior Daniel Chavez in the discus and senior Sam Zyskowski in the triple jump, along with Sonoma’s 4X400 relay team.

Macedonio took a third in the 1,600, as did Robles in the 400; Sheldon in the 800, junior Alonzo Heredia in the 200, junior Henry Darnell in the shot and Kenton in the triple jump.

For the girls, senior Hannah Ford-Monroe, senior Julia Hart and junior Amy Stanfield all recorded double wins – Ford-Monroe in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles; Hart in the shot and discus – where she had a personal best of 98-feet ½-inch and Stanfield in the 400 and 800 meters. Junior Emma Maggioncalda won the high jump and the team of junior Gigi Girish, sophomore Annika Ginter, freshman Ella Sutter and Maggioncalda won the 4X100 meter relay. Sonoma’s 4X400-meter relay team also won.

Seconds went to junior Trinity McGuinness in the 400, senior Maddy Cashel in the 3,200, freshman Kasia Jacobson in the high jump, junior Tessa Baxter in the long jump and the triple jump and junior Lauren Smith in the shot.

The Dragons got thirds out of Cashel in the 1,600, Ginter in the 100 hurdles, Maggioncalda in the 100 and 200, junior Aliya Blinman in the 800, Stanfield in the long jump, Smith in the discus and Jacobson in the triple jump.

The JV boys also won, 67-20, while the JV girls lost, 59-53.

The Dragons have their final meet of the season next Wednesday in a triangular meet with Elsie Allen and Sonoma Academy at Elsie Allen. Sonoma will be in the Sonoma County League meet on Thursday, May 11, with the finals on Saturday, May 13.
