Four swimmers get double wins|

Both the Sonoma Valley High boys and girls swim teams, in their opening dual meet of the season, beat Petaluma on March 16. The boys, who are looking for a three-peat of their Sonoma Valley League title, beat the Trojans 123-39, while the girls, who are hoping for their own title, won 124-43.

Senior Owen Summers and junior Dominic Tommasi each won two events. Summers won the 200 IM in a time of 2:04.8, and the 100 breast (1:13.3). Tommasi took the 200 IM (2:18.6) and the 100 fly (1:01.8).

Sophomore Ethan Smith added another first in the 50 free (24.6) and a second in the 500 free (5:25.65).

“Senior Jackson Mighell and junior Nate Silva help round out the boys team this year, as they make a charge for a third straight SCL championship,” said Coach Jane Hansen. “The boys have a strong influx of freshman swimmers, including Jason Pine, Julian Bell, Chris Berger, Jack Yeates and Noah Coronado.”

On the girls side, junior Abby Parr and freshman Charlotte Hunter each won a pair of races – Parr won the 200 free (2:13.2) and 100 free (1:00.5) while Hunter took the 50 free (26.8) and 100 breast (1:15.8). Freshman Kathryn Ajax added a first in the 500 free with a 5:47.4 and a second in the 50 free (27.8).

“Other strong swimmers to watch this season are senior Cameron Taggesell, junior Hannah Ladouceur, and sophomore Maya Grajczyk,” Hansen said. “The varsity girls also have a strong freshman class with Charlotte Hunter, Kathryn Ajax, Sofia Portello, Sofia Barker, and Faith Thomas (all former Sea Dragons).”

“The girls hope to upset Analy this year as league champs,” Hansen added.

The teams host Healdsburg in one of only two home meets, at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Sonoma Aquatic Club, 17350 Vailetti Dr. Sonoma’s other home meet, on their five-meet schedule, is against Piner on April 20.
