Tennis Dragons edge Petaluma

Sonoma stays unbeaten in SCL play|

The Sonoma Valley High tennis Dragons continued their hot play Thursday as they beat Petaluma, 4-3, and stay unbeaten in Sonoma County League play.

“It was a battle royal with cheese,” said Coach Walt Williams. “The singles matches were extremely tight especially Eric (Serbiki) and Elias (Sosa-Mercado) who both won in three sets. Then Sam (Weisiger) and Andrew (McKale) won the decisive match 7-5 in the third.”

In singles play, senior Matt McKale, playing number one, beat Nathan Wong, 6-3 and 6-2. Serbiki, a sophomore, playing two, defeated Connor Gors, 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4. Petaluma’s Zack Leno topped senior Liam Handron, 6-4 and 6-3. And Sosa-Mercado, playing four, edged Alex Dodd, 6-4, 6-7 (7-9) and 6-4.

In doubles play, Weisiger, a sophomore, and freshman Andrew McKale, playing at number one, beat the team of Adam Volk and Vince Betmont, 6-0, 6-7 (5-7) and 7-5. At two, the Petaluma team of Colton Moss and Farris Mughannam beat senior Ben Finley and junior Max Gustafson, 6-3 and 6-0. And at three, the Petaluma team of Khalil Tams and Hayden Dennis topped freshman Reid Hewitt and junior Nance Momsen, 6-3 and 6-3.

The Dragons are 4-0 in SCL play.

Tuesday, today, the Dragons are at Analy. They have a bye on Thursday and are off until they host El Molino on Tuesday, March 28.
