The Sonoma Valley High boys tennis team opened the season Thursday with a 5-2 win over Analy. The Dragons won three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.
In singles play, in the number one slot, sophomore Erik Serbicki beat Tommy Howley, 6-1 and 6-1. At two, senior Matt McKale beat Matt Davidson, 6-0 and 6-1. At three, Analy’s Nathan Flood topped freshman Andrew McKale 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) and 6-4. And at number four, senior Elias Sosa-Mercado beat Ben Landuchi, 6-0 and 6-2. In doubles play, at number one, sophomore Sam Weisiger and senior Ben Finley beat Johnathan Taggart and Louis Valenzuela, 6-1 and 6-1. At two, Analy’s Sean Connick and Tim Hulse beat senior Javier Rico and senior Corbin Cook, 1-6, 6-3 and 10-3 (third set tiebreaker due to time). And at three, sophomore Silvan Kopp and junior Max Gustafson topped Chester Hulse and Max Cobert, 6-4 and 6-3.
“It was a great first match,” Coach Walt Williams said. “Andrew (McKale) and Nathan (Flood) had an awesome battle at number three singles.”
The win gives the Dragons a 1-0 record.
