Lady Dragon cagers routed in NCS

Bishop O’Dowd administers season-ending defeat|

The Sonoma Valley High Lady Dragon cagers were on the wrong end of a blow-out Friday in the quarterfinal round of the North Coast Section tournament.

Bishop O’Dowd, who is ranked sixth in the state and 19th nationally, administered a 75-23 beat down to the Lady Dragons, thus ending their season.

Sonoma finished the year 23-7, were 12-0 in Sonoma County League play and had a 20-game winning streak along the way.

Despite Friday’s loss, Coach Jann Thorpe is proud of what her girls accomplished this year.

“Regardless of the score, I was extremely happy with the effort and fight the girls gave. At halftime, we talked about just focusing on enjoying the experience and know that next year they’ll probably watching some of these girls on TV playing for their college,” Thorpe said. “The girls had a great attitude and remained positive. The girls said in the second half, even the ref acknowledged our positive spirit and said it was so nice to see.”

“Regardless of that loss,” Thorpe continued, “the girls and I talked about what an amazing season it was. There were so many exciting games and so many memories that were made over the course of this season. The girls have a lot to be proud of.”
