Sonoma girls 8th seed, boys 13th in NCS D-3 hoops

Tourney gets started on Tuesday|

Both the Sonoma Valley High girls and boys basketball teams qualified for the Division 3 North Coast Section tournament that starts today, Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Both teams will be in action today – the girls at home and the boys on the road.

The Lady Dragons (22-6) received an eighth seed and they’ll host ninth-seed Alhambra (22-4) from the Diablo-American League. Game time is 7 p.m. in Pfeiffer Gym.

The winner of Tuesday’s game gets to face the winner of the top-seed Bishop O’Dowd and 16th seed Kennedy game on Friday.

Analy, after beating Sonoma Saturday in the SCL tournament finals, received a 10th seed in Division 3 and Healdsburg received a 14th seed in Division 4.

The Dragon boys (12-14) received a 13th seed and will face fourth-seeded San Marin (18-10), from the Marin County League, at San Marin. Game time there is 8 p.m.

“We’re excited to have earned the #13 seed,” said Coach Mike Boles. “The players have worked extremely hard all season and we’re very proud of them. They have an opportunity to continue playing and that’s rewarding. We look forward to the challenge.”

Analy also received a bid and they got a third seed. Petaluma is the 13th seed in Division 2 and Healdsburg is the eighth seed in Division 4.

The winner of the Sonoma-San Marin game gets to face the winner of the Drake (5)-Hayward (12) game on Friday.

Archbishop Hanna also qualified for the NCS in Division 6.

The Hawks (12-10) received a 12th seed and will meet third-seed Laytonville in Laytonville at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
