Sonoma boy, girl cagers both beat El Mo

Lady Dragons sport 5-0 Sonoma County League record|

The Sonoma Valley High basketball teams both beat El Molino Tuesday evening.

The boys ran off to a 21-3 first quarter lead and cruised to a 62-32 win. The Lions outscored the Dragons 13-6 in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 20 points. But the Dragons turned it on again in the fourth quarter and at one point ran off 10 unanswered points to make the margin 30 points.

Senior Nazir Lyle led the Dragons with 13 points, junior Dylan Samaniego and freshman Jay Taylor both had a dozen.

The win gives the Dragons a 10-8 overall record and a 3-1 Sonoma County League mark.

The Dragons host Healdsburg on Thursday and host Petaluma Saturday.

The Lady Dragons kept their SCL mark perfect as they too beat El Molino 51-40 in a make-up game that was scheduled for last week.

Sonoma took an 18-11 first-quarter lead, but El Mo passed the Lady Dragons and led 22-21 at the half.

After the half, the Lady Dragons put on a burst and outscored the Lions 16-3 in the third quarter to give themselves a comfortable lead.

Senior Kayla Field led the Lady Dragons with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds and six steals. Senior Alanna Johnston chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and five steals.

The win gives the Lady Dragons a 13-5 overall record and a 5-0 conference mark. Sonoma hosts Piner Friday evening.
